Janice Hahn
Janice Hahn (D) is running for re-election in the 36th District of CA, which she was elected to in a special election July 12, 2011. Hahn carried the district with 55% of the vote. Her runoff opponent, Tea Party candidate Craig Huey, carried 45% of the vote.
Background:
- Hahn served on the Los Angeles City Council from 2001 to 2011 and on the Los Angeles Charter Commission from 1997 to 1999.
- Councilwoman Hahn worked for the rights and fair pay for working men and women, including dock workers, hotel workers, airport workers and nurses.
- She has a BS in Education from Abilene Christian University and is a former teacher.
Hahn's Positions on Key Issues:
- Hahn supports a woman's right to choose and was endorsed by NARAL in the July special election.
- Hahn is a supporter of universal health care.
- She opposed Proposition 8 which eliminated the right to same sex marriage and believes that "every person should have the right to marry whoever he or she chooses".
- Hahn supports equal employment opportunities for women and fair pay.
Opponent: No opposing candidate has announced yet in the 2012 race.
